Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars
There was one reason I knew about Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars and that was the fact that Shawn Michaels was in it. I didn’t care how long he was featured in the movie, I was going to see it. When I finally saw it sitting on the shelves at my local Family Video, a part of me was wishing it would go on sale quick. I went in today with a rent 1 get 1 coupon and I decided I would rent it as it wasn’t on sale yet.
I am glad I rented this movie. AOJ: Farce Wars wears its intentions on its sleeves; it’s a parody through and through. It is a mish-mash of characters reminiscent of beloved Marvel and Star Wars characters. As far as parodies go it is definitely the lower end of the spectrum. Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars may quickly be forgotten by most but Shawn Michael’s Incredible Master Yoga will forever live on in my mind.
It’s silly and a lot of its material is miss more than hit. Shawn as the Incredible Master Yoga is my favorite part of this movie. Without him I would not have even thought of renting it. I hope Shawn at least had a blast making this because I can’t imagine taking on a project like this unless I thought I was going to have fun. Shawn is painted almost entirely green and is a mystical yoga instructor wise in the ways of the farce. He does well in it and I loved to see him playing the character mostly straight up with a dash of hamminess. Shawn gets to show off his physical aptitude in the film with some fight scenes with Superbat and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get his Yoga ears out of my mind.
The actors all did great in the film but the material fell a little flat. Stephen Rannazzisi (The League) was excellent as Superbat and I really liked Simon Rex (Superhero Movie, the Scary Movie franchise) as Dark Jokester. Simon was made for these parody roles and his portrayal of a mixture of both Heath Ledger’s Joker and Jared Leto’s Joker was top notch.
If you’re a fan of parodies you may enjoy this but I feel like many will think it is low grade trash. I had just enough fun with it to not feel like it was a waste of time and will continue to watch any film that stars Shawn Michaels.
